GET TO KNOW Simon.

As a test / race engineer at BMW Motorsport, I look after our team and the drive train of the BMW M8 GTE in the American GTLM racing series - IMSA Weather Tech Sportscar Championship. My area of responsibility ranges from operational planning and testing to race support.

In numerous tests on the track, we try out old and new components in order to meet the high demands in 24h races. For this I define test procedures, make sure that the correct components are installed and monitor their use. At the races, I set the performance-specific parameters on the drive and work closely with the drivers to achieve a coherent setup. Traction control, launch control, responsiveness and shifting are the core issues here. In addition, I bring development suggestions to the headquarters in Munich.

Over the past few years, I've been through highs and lows with BMW Motorsport. In motorsport, you quickly learn how close together victory and defeat are. A technical failure or accidents lead to frustration, but at the same time we were able to celebrate numerous great successes, above all the victories in the 24h race in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) in 2016 and in Daytona, Florida (USA) in 2019 and 2020. The latter in particular was the biggest event for me: the repetition of the success of 2019 with the hard-fought victory of the Daytona 24h in 2020.

I already had contact with the BMW Group while studying aerospace engineering. Back then, I volunteered for the university’s Formula Student team, which BMW supported as a sponsor. Like that, I found my internship in vehicle dynamics development and then wrote my diploma thesis in the field of driving tests.

After completing my studies, I first gained experience in the design of racing cars at KLK Motorsport, before I joined BMW Motorsport customer racing as a support engineer. Since then, working in professional motorsport is no longer a distant dream and I am delighted to be part of the BMW Motorsport team today. Because I've had a passion for vehicles and motorsport all my life. Now I am part of "Sheer Driving Pleasure" myself.
