INNOVATION IS IMAGINING WHAT NO ONE ELSE CAN.
At the BMW Group, everything starts with passion. It turns a profession into a vocation. It drives us to keep reinventing mobility and bring innovative ideas onto the roads. Enthusiasm for joint projects turns a team into a strong unit where every opinion is valued. It is only when expertise, highly professional processes and enjoyment of work unite that we can shape the future together.
With our team of AI engineers and AI strategists, you will shape future system and hardware architecture, determine and drive software architecture with a strong focus on AI trends that interplay symbiotically.
You will co-create AI use cases, continuously assess latest AI developments, implement them where they add value, and derive architecture proposals for upcoming vehicle generations. You will translate use cases into concrete hardware requirements.
What awaits you?
- You design end-to-end AI and data architectures for our future vehicle generations with a strong focus on the latest AI trends.
- You build architectural concepts that cover diverse use cases (e.g. digital cockpit, driver interaction) to deliver holistic customer experiences.
- You provide architectural guardrails to business units and development teams, enabling competitive AI products on our AI platforms.
- You drive the implementation of scalable AI software platforms, using state-of-the-art AI research and leveraging our in-house scalable software stacks.
- You link platform and application development by defining interfaces and ensuring that new AI trends and requirements are integrated directly into the AI and data platforms.
- You co-create and prioritize AI use cases across domains, assess feasibility and value, and break them down into system and hardware requirements (compute, memory, bandwidth, energy).
What should you bring along?
- Master’s or PhD in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science or related field, and 3+ years in AI/data architecture; automotive E/E and vehicle AI experience is a plus.
- Track record in embedded AI architectures and implementation of Small Language Models (SLM) and Vision-Language Models (VLM).
- Proficiency in AI training workflows and model optimization for deployment (pruning, fine-tuning, quantization, multimodal encoding) is a plus.
- Familiarity with open-source AI stacks (vLLM, llama.cpp, ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, LiteRT LM, ExecuTorch, Llama-Stack) on embedded hardware (NPU) and comparison to proprietary frameworks with focus on latency, throughput, and energy.
- Solid software development and engineering skills: Python, API-Technologies, CI/CD and cloud-native deployment.
- Expertise in multi-agent orchestration, familiarity with open standards (e.g. A2A, MCP) and conversation-based workflows.
- Experience with LLM- / Agentic-Systems using tool-enabled workflows, vector databases, RAG, GraphRAG, context engineering, retrieval strategies, session memory and persistence.
- Proven leadership in agile, cross-functional settings.
