Start a six month journey of discovery with us by joining our 6-Months Internship Program.

Find out if you are the inventive type, good at managing, or implementing ideas. These six months of self-discovery could improve your chances of following the career you’ve always wanted.

Perhaps you are a domestic or an international student who is currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master Degree program, or perhaps you are considering a work experience year. Our program is designed to complement your theoretical studies and support your professional development by providing you with real hands-on experience of working as part of a dynamic team in your chosen field.

Requirements.

The program is open to domestic and international students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Master’s program, or have graduated no more than 12 months prior to internship start date.

How to apply?

Our 6-month Internship program is available at BMW of North America in Woodcliff Lake (NJ), Mountain View (CA), Oxnard (CA) and Schaumburg (IL).

Our Internship Program allows undergraduate and graduate students to work for one time period (spring, summer, or fall) in order to explore their career choices while gaining valuable experience. This enables you to test your career choices while gaining valuable experience in a manufacturing environment. Our interns are used in areas where special projects are assigned. We have internship opportunities available during spring, summer, and fall sessions.

Requirements.

You can join us for an internship if you are a full-time student, pursuing at least a Bachelor’s degree, attend an accredited university or college in the United States, and meet the following requirements: 

  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States
  • Pursuing a BS or Graduate Degree as indicated
  • Have completed three semesters towards that degree by the start of the work term
  • Able to complete 3 rotating terms for co-op positions
  • Have at least 1 remaining term in school after the completion of the co-op or internship
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university
  • Enrolled with the university co-op or career services office
  • Complete and pass a pre-placement physical and substance abuse test before the work term
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

For students currently attending a university outside the United States, we also offer an international internship program at BMW manufacturing plant Spartanburg. This would allow an international student to gain experience in a manufacturing environment within the United States. Our international interns are used in areas where special projects are assigned for a 6 month rotation. We have internship opportunities available during the spring and fall sessions. No summer sessions are available.

Requirements.

  • You can join us for an international internship if you are a full-time student, pursuing at least a Bachelor’s degree, attend an accredited university outside the United States, and meet the following requirements:
  • Have completed a prior BMW internship of at least 3 months in length
  • Be currently enrolled in a university study program as indicated
  • Provide the following paperwork
  • Cover letter in English
  • Curriculum Vitae in English
  • BMW internship/Student Work Assignment Assessment sheet
  • International diploma/pre-degree (transcripts)

Take an invaluable opportunity to gain in-depth exposure and experience at our plant in Spartanburg with our Co-op Program.

You’ll spend at least three semesters/six quarters rotating between full-time work and study. This allows you to work on continuous projects with escalating responsibility. Interested in German culture and language? You may qualify for the BMW International Co-op Program where you’ll serve your third or fourth rotation in a German BMW facility. Participants must meet the general requirements, be enrolled in their university’s international co-op program, and have language proficiency.

Co-op opportunities are available in the following fields: Engineering, Manufacturing Support, Quality Management, Logistics, Procurement, Information Technology, Human Resources, Communications, as well as Finance and Controlling.

You can join us for a Co-op if you are a full-time student, pursuing at least a Bachelor’s degree, attend an accredited university or college in the United States, and meet the following requirements:

Plant Spartanburg’s two-year development program for recent college graduates is a great way to launch your career and gain fantastic insight into your future.

BMW Manufacturing strives to be a leader in the industry for developing careers in the following fields: Engineering; Manufacturing/Operations Management; Supply Chain Management, Logistics, and Procurement; Accounting and Finance; Human Resources; and Information Technology. The Plant Spartanburg Engineering and Operations Management Development Program consists of three assignments of eight months each, with line and project responsibilities in a variety of functional areas.

Our BMW Scholars Program allows students who are in manufacturing-related degrees to attend class full-time at local two-year community colleges while working part-time hours at our plant in Spartanburg.

This allows you to further your education while gaining valuable experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment and become a potential candidate for full-time positions at BMW Manufacturing Plant Spartanburg.

We provide tuition assistance each semester, while you are enrolled full-time and actively participating in the Scholars Program.

Requirements.

  • Full-time student status at a participating accredited two-year college and commitment to attend school year round. Participating colleges include: Spartanburg Community College, Greenville Technical College, and Tri County Technical College
  • Students must be enrolled in a production, technician, or other manufacturing-related degree such as maintenance, automotive, machine tool, robotics, etc.
  • Students must be entering or in their 1-2nd semester of degree study to be considered
  • Possess a minimum 2.8 GPA
  • Successful completion of BMW Assessment testing is required
  • Commitment to working up to 20 hours per week at BMW during the course of the program
  • Participation in BMW training is required
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Organizational skills are necessary
  • Computer experience required (MS Office software)
  • No obligation for continued employment by BMW or the student upon receipt of a degree by the student

After successfully completing 2-3 co-op rotation terms at our plant in Spartanburg, as a top-performing undergraduate you may be recommended to participate in the SpeedUp Scholarship Program by a manager — giving selected students the opportunity to experience an internship abroad. Once you have secured an internship in the target country, you are sponsored as a “SpeedUp” while maintaining your full-time status at an accredited four-year institution.

Requirements.

  • Have successfully completed 2 or 3 co-op rotation terms in Plant Spartanburg, and have a recommendation from the manager
  • Have secured an internship opportunity in the target country
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university pursuing a relevant bachelor degree
  • Enrolled with the university co-op or career services office
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Demonstrate language proficiency for the target country successfully
  • Pass the selection process
