The US office of the Designworks consultancy employs approximately 70 associates across a variety of design disciplines, working side by side in a 38,000 sq. ft. building in one of the world’s most important and vibrant design hubs, L.A.
BMW Group in Newbury Park (Western Region) is home to approximately 60 BMW associates who support sales, aftersales, center development and all other jobs in other regional locations.
L.A. is the second largest city in the United States also known as the City of Angels. Broad beaches, scenic landscapes and a vibrant, creative atmosphere converge in this multi-cultural hotspot.

Located in a large coastal basin and bordered on three sides by mountains, swimming, surfing, mountain biking and hiking are popular outdoor activities. The Santa Monica Mountains offer surprisingly wild scenery. On the coast the famous Malibu beach offers 24 miles of white sand and scenic beauty.
California’s subtropical-Mediterranean climate means that the area can boast good weather all-year-round, with dry summers and only a little rain in winter. Designworks is a global creative consultancy that was acquired in 1995 by BMW Group with the aim of challenging and inspiring the design teams with an outside perspective. To obtain an international perspective, they operate out of 3 offices; Los Angeles, Munich and Shanghai.
The studio in California occupies a modern, 38,000 sq. ft. building in the Newbury Park area, close to the Santa Monica Mountains and 35 miles from L.A.
The building’s open architectural layout provides plenty of natural light and personal space to inspire the creative impulses of its 135 plus associates. The staff represents a variety of nationalities and creative fields, including specialists in research, strategy, industrial design, automotive design, digital modeling, Color, Material & Finish and sustainability. With an integral approach to design, the studio offers a broad range of design and consulting services while remaining in itself a stand-alone profit center. The Designworks in-house material library stores in-trend design elements such as fabrics, colors, textures and patterns. The library is accessible to staff and regularly updated to reflect the latest trends.
The mission of the studio is to design for a context that is located on the border between the near and more distant future. In doing so, our designers leverage the full power of BMW Group’s culture of innovation in order to advance the goals of external clients as well as at the same time introducing outside perspectives and design trends to the BMW Group. Designworks calls this approach cross-fertilization.
In the late 1970s BMW NA established its first office in the Western Region, Marina del Rey. In 2000 the Group decided to move to Ontario, finally finding its current home in January 2015 in Newbury Park.
Opened in January 2015, this state-of-the-art facility is located in the northeast part of Newbury Park and within the Designworks building.
Nestled in picturesque Thousand Oaks, the Newbury Park facility is within miles of the Santa Monica Mountains and just a quick drive through the canyons to the beautiful beaches of Malibu. The location is just a one hour drive from downtown Los Angeles and close to local shops, restaurants and sports facilities.
The glass-fronted building features two floors with an open office floor plan, 3 conference rooms for meetings, a generously proportioned kitchen and ample coffee locations.
The Western Region office is responsible for sales and marketing, aftersales and Center Development.
The team of roughly around 100 associates handle approximately 84 dealerships plus satellite stores for a region that covers the US from Colorado to Hawaii and includes 13 states.
Center Development supports continued BMW and MINI retailer growth, the required presentation of our brand standards and compliance with BMW Group Corporate Identify, and attaining our customer satisfaction goals.
In addition Newbury Park is responsible for MINI sales/aftersales/market coordination/regional business management, regional product trainers (BMW and MINI).
The Area Manager in the Newbury Park offices plays a pivotal role in the overall sales success of BMW in the US.
The Western Region’s smaller team structure fosters a start-up like environment that lends itself to exciting cross-departmental collaborations. Marketing, Sales, Aftersales, Finance, and the Center Development Departments all operate in close proximity to each other offering an introspective view of each group’s efforts in delivering outstanding experience to our customers and dealers.
