Customs and Export Control Analyst

Description 

  • Collaborates with the Customs and Export Control team and manager to execute all operations related to export control and export processes, including EEI filing, to support all US BMW Group legal entities, including but not limited to: BMW MC, BMW CS, BMW NA, RRMC NA, Designworks, and any other US legal entity that engages in cross-border or domestic activities subject to export and/or export control regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors, tracks and completes information necessary for export transactions and proper electronic Export Information (EEI) filing requirements for all outbound cross-border transactions.
  • Guides the relevant departments (e.g., logistics) on export requirements and works with them when shipment changes trigger requirements to amend the information already reported to the US government in the EEI reports, ensuring that the EEI amendments are made within the timelines established by the pertinent regulations (e.g., Foreign Trade Regulations).
  • Guides all departments and employees seeking to ship items outside the US, to include via the mailroom, regarding regulatory requirements, documents needed, and obtaining the necessary internal reviews/approvals from the Customs and Export Control Department.
  • Reviews non-production cross-border transactions for compliance with pertinent export regulations (e.g., Foreign Trade Regulations) and all applicable export control regulations, and approves/denies the transaction as appropriate, or escalate as appropriate.
  • Monitors the SAP-GTS system to review all transactions flagged for further human review, review the red-flags found by the SAP-GTS system and, as appropriate, resolve or escalate as appropriate. As well monitor processes performed by external service provider(s) to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Reviews sanctioned party screening results in the SAP-GTS system and resolves them accordingly, or escalates when necessary.
  • Resolves export control-related matters in the SAP-GTS system, including determining the Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) of items being exported and documenting the information.
  • Identifies applicable export control license requirements, export control-related prohibitions, and/or other applicable export control restrictions/requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications 

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited university is required. (BA/BS in International Business or related field is preferred).
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a customs and/or export control related capacity.
  • 2+ years of experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a customer-focused environment.
  • Experience in an international environment (strongly preferred).
  • Customs Broker License (preferred but not required for this role but ability to obtain a Customs Broker License is required for career advancement within this role in the Customs and Export Control Department). 
  • 3+ years of professional MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • 3+ years of professional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation).
  • 2+ years of analytical skills. Basic knowledge of customs and export control regulations. Basic skills in using an SAP system (SAP-GTS preferred). Basic understanding of customs and export control applications (preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of a foreign language (German preferred).
