Brad, a Business IT development student standing outside next to a stand-up display with “Plant 12.0 Hams Hall” and the BMW and MINI logos on it

I have always been passionate about the automotive industry. I did a 12-month placement at BMW Group as part of my degree course and it was an action-packed year. I worked on 20-30 projects, some smaller and then some longer term projects, mainly within the Quality team, but I was also able to work with colleagues from other departments, from Engineering to HR and Finance, too. And thanks to Skype, I was also liaising with colleagues from Germany, Austria and America and gaining an insight into their working world.

At BMW Group, every day is different, but there is always a focus on the future. The role is very broad and involves data analysis, report building and liaising with staff in the production plant to help them with processes and tools to become more efficient. I get to see different sides of the business and be hands-on with all the emerging technologies we’re bringing into the company which is very exciting to experience.

In a company of this size there is infinite opportunity. If you want to work within a certain field there’s a team somewhere in BMW Group you can look to join or be in contact with. And everyone is so friendly, it’s just like joining a family. It means you’re never afraid to talk to anyone or ask for help or advice. There are so many experts within the business to learn from.
