Beyond the plains of Eastern Hungary lies one of the country’s most important cultural hubs – Debrecen. As the second largest city in Hungary, Debrecen has also served as the country’s capital on two occasions in the past. Debrecen is home to the largest university in the country, the University of Debrecen, with over 30,000 students from all around the world studying across 14 departments. In addition, the city has had an international school since 2019 and boasts several primary and high schools that have earned national recognition. Furthermore, Debrecen is proud to house the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre, which offers a wide range of training programs and serves as a partner to the BMW Group Plant Debrecen.

Culture.

Debrecen is renowned for its vibrant cultural and sports scene, with numerous events taking place throughout the year. The Flower Carnival is perhaps the most famous of these, attracting visitors from all over the world. Another major event is the Campus Festival, widely regarded as one of Hungary's top music festivals. In addition, the city hosts a variety of gastronomical and music festivals year-round. Theatre enthusiasts can also enjoy performances at the recently renovated Csokonai National Theatre.

The local cuisine is very popular due to its close proximity to Hortobagy. Goulash and slambuc are among the most well-known specialities, and the Debrecziner sausage is also known worldwide. You can find different restaurants in town, where they serve local delicacies and international cuisine.

Debrecen enjoys excellent transportation links, with well-connected road and railway networks. In addition, it is home to the second-largest international airport in Hungary, offering direct flight connections to Munich.
