Technical Specialist.

Are you a multi-skilled specialist who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, improving automated equipment and seeing the direct impact of your work? We are looking for proactive Technical Specialists to join our Surface Finish Centre and help keep critical quality-related machinery performing at its best. No two days will be the same. You may be diagnosing a challenging issue, optimising machine performance, supporting an equipment change or helping colleagues strengthen their technical capability. You will combine hands-on fault-finding with continuous improvement, compliance and project support in a fast-moving advanced manufacturing environment.

What awaits you:
  • Monitoring automated production robots.
  • Take the lead in responding to production equipment breakdowns and provide secondary support for infrastructure equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic faults.
  • Deliver planned preventive maintenance, condition-based monitoring and equipment optimisation.
  • Improve cycle time, equipment availability and product quality through practical, data-informed solutions.
  • Support equipment changes, commissioning, buy-off activities and production process projects.
  • Develop TPM and autonomous maintenance activity using breakdown feedback and improvement opportunities.
  • Coach technicians and production associates, sharing equipment knowledge and effective maintenance practices.
  • Ensure all activity meets health and safety, environmental, COSHH, lock-off and isolation, statutory and business requirements.
 What you should bring along:
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, robotics and machine-specific control systems.
  • A recognised, time-served apprenticeship or equivalent practical technical training.
  • A relevant qualification such as HNC, City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3, or comparable experience.
  • Experience in technical maintenance, automated manufacturing or a production engineering environment.
  • Strong fault-finding capability across mechanical, electrical, electronic and control systems.
  • A structured approach to problem-solving and sound decision-making under production pressure.
  • Strong IT skills and a consistent commitment to safe working and continuous improvement.
  • Experience of equipment commissioning, technical changes or machinery buy-off.
  • Understanding of statutory maintenance duties and electrical safety regulations.
  • Experience of TPM, condition monitoring or autonomous maintenance.
 What do we offer?

This is more than a traditional technical maintenance role. You will have the autonomy to apply your judgement, tackle varied automation challenges and directly influence equipment reliability, production quality and operational performance. You will join a collaborative manufacturing environment where technical expertise is valued, improvement ideas are encouraged and your work has a visible impact. The role offers broad exposure to machinery, robot automation, improvement projects and the development of others—creating opportunities to deepen your expertise while helping shape a safer, smarter and more reliable operation.

If you enjoy hands-on engineering, complex fault-finding and turning technical insight into measurable improvement, we would like to hear from you. We welcome applications from candidates whose transferable skills and practical experience equip them to succeed, even if they do not meet every desirable criterion.
