Master Thesis Data-Driven Mobility Modeling (f/m/x)

SOME IT WORKS. SOME CHANGES WHAT'S POSSIBLE.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

More than 90% of automotive innovations are based on electronics and software. That's why creative freedom and lateral thinking are so important in the pursuit of truly novel solutions. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

Our team at the BMW Group advances automotive innovation through software and data. We value creative freedom and lateral thinking, giving you the space to contribute your ideas and support our mission to turn vehicle data into actionable insights for energy management, maintenance, and fleet operations.

What awaits you?

  • You will support advancing data-driven mobility by structuring vehicle usage patterns and helping to improve fleet operations.
  • Furthermore, you help to explore probabilistic sequence modeling approaches to capture temporal dynamics and latent influences in usage behavior for your master’s thesis.
  • In addition, you contribute to designing experiments and evaluation to assess your developed models.
  • Moreover, you will support the documentation of your results and communicate findings to stakeholders.

Please note that your thesis must be supervised by a university on your part.

What should you bring along?

  • Studies in data science, machine learning, statistics, computer science, mobility/transportation or a related field.
  • Strong Python skills (pandas, pyspark, NumPy, scikit-learn; experience with PyTorch, JAX or TensorFlow is a plus).
  • Solid understanding of probabilistic modeling and hands-on experience in data and feature engineering, experiment design and evaluation.
  • Ability to design train/validation splits, apply cross-validation, and use error metrics and uncertainty estimation.
  • Curiosity, proactive mindset, and talent for turning noisy real-world data into clear, defensible insights.
  • Good English skills; German is a plus.

Would you like to support us in advancing data-driven mobility and gain experience in probabilistic modeling? Then apply now!

What do we offer?

  • Comprehensive mentoring & onboarding.
  • Personal & professional development.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Mobile work.
  • Attractive & fair compensation.
  • Apartments for students (subject to availability & only at the Munich location).
