We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied PhD position in the field of life cycle assessment (LCA). The BMW Group's product sustainability team focuses on the life cycle assessment of various product models in order to better understand their respective environmental impacts. As part of our team, you will conduct research with a focus on assessing the impact on biodiversity.

What awaits you?

•You will develop a methodology for measuring biodiversity loss in the automotive industry and evaluate its integration into existing LCA methods and tools.

•You will play a central role in researching and further developing LCA methods and their implementation within the BMW Group.

•You will coordinate cross-industry and international standards and regulations on biodiversity with various internal BMW departments.

• As an LCA expert, you will represent BMW and your research topic at international conferences.

• You will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary manner with various departments and contribute scientifically to the future development and integration of LCA standards in the automotive industry with a focus on biodiversity assessment.

•Through close collaboration with the BMW product sustainability team, you will gain comprehensive knowledge of the entire sustainability strategy and measures to reduce environmental impact at the BMW Group.

What should you bring along?

  • Completed degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Management, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or a comparable qualification.
  • Initial work experience in sustainability management and life cycle assessment is desirable.
  • Experience with LCA software and databases, e.g. OpenLCA and ecoinvent, Sphera LCA for experts, SimaPro, Brightway, Python or similar.
  • High interest in LCA methodology, especially with focus on biodiversity impact assessment methods.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to analyze and structure complex contexts.
  • Strong communication skills with business fluent English, German is an advantage.
