Production Digitalization Intern (Data / Computer Science)

Description:

  • Develop AI-enabled applications for BMW's Digital Twin Platform, work directly with manufacturing experts, and help shape the future of battery production and electric mobility.
  • Support the ramp-up of BMW’s next-generation battery production by developing digital solutions that improve quality, efficiency, traceability, and operational transparency.
  • Help shape BMW’s Digital Twin platform, connecting data, processes, equipment, and people into a unified digital environment used to optimise factory operations.
  • Build full-stack applications using modern software engineering practices, AI-assisted development tools, and intelligent automation technologies.
  • Leverage technologies such as Microsoft Copilot and emerging AI tools to accelerate development and deliver innovative digital solutions.
  • Work directly with experts across production, quality, logistics, maintenance, and engineering to solve real-world manufacturing challenges.
  • Take ownership of projects from concept to deployment, presenting outcomes to stakeholders and plant leadership.
  • Contribute to the rollout of digital solutions across BMW’s global production network and gain exposure to international projects and best practices.
  • Help build the digital foundation that supports the future of BMW’s electric mobility production system. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

 

The qualified intern should expect to contribute to improvements in the following functions:

  • Conduct research and conceptualize new ideas.
  • Support project management and coordination of plans for related projects.
  • Coordinate and support focused, community-based events and initiatives.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret information to evaluate the landscape against business strategies.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and recommend relevant initiatives for activities and actions.
  • Provide regular input on enhancing processes and practices.
  • Support the organization’s vision, strategy, priorities, and roadmap.
  • Partner with stakeholders to enable successful prioritization, development, delivery, and adoption of program goals.
  • Create PowerPoint slide decks for presentations and support preparation for meetings.
  • Participate in project team meetings.
  • Provide general administrative support.
  • Schedule the use of meeting room facilities on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform other administrative duties and special projects as assigned by project team members.

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering or similar degree
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Innovative Mindset: A proactive approach with creativity, project management capability, and a knack for entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Technical Proficiency: Programming experience with a preference for Python & JavaScript skills and basic understanding of cloud architecture deployment.
  • Database Knowledge: A grasp of using SQL databases is beneficial.
  • Analytical Expertise: Adept in areas such as data mining, machine learning, statistical signal processing, and pattern recognition.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Good organization and project management skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills in English and preferably German.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
  • THE WORK TERM DATES ARE May 18th – August 7th, 2026.
