Intern, AI Design Technologist - Summer/Fall 2026
Role Purpose
The AI Design Technologist Intern supports the Interaction Design team by exploring, prototyping, and applying AI-enabled systems within creative and experiential design projects. This role focuses on building and experimenting with AI-powered workflows, interfaces, and interaction models using existing tools and platforms, rather than developing machine learning models from scratch.
This is a full-time internship position for our Summer and Fall Rotation.
What Awaits You
- Support BMW brand, internal innovation, and client-facing projects involving AI-enabled interaction concepts.
- Explore applications of AI across traditional digital interfaces and emerging modalities such as conversational, generative, AR/VR, and phygital experiences.
- Assist in rapid prototyping of AI-powered experiences, tools, and creative workflows.
- Collaborate closely with Interaction Designers and UX/UI Designers to translate creative intent into system behavior.
- Research emerging AI tools, platforms, and trends relevant to creative and interaction design.
- Document experiments, insights, and recommendations for internal knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to internal studio initiatives across departments.
What This Role Is / Is Not
This role is about applying and composing AI systems in creative contexts. It emphasizes experimentation, systems thinking, and learning by doing. Deep computer science, advanced mathematics, or training AI models from scratch are not required.
Collaboration & Interfaces
- Works with Interaction Designers, UX/UI Designers, Creative Directors, Product teams, and studio leadership.
- Communicates AI capabilities and limitations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING.
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor or master’s degree program at an accredited college or university
- Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major)
- Have completed at least 60 college credits or be at least a rising Junior.
- Field of study may include Interaction Design, UX, HCI, Creative Technology, Digital Media, or adjacent disciplines.Ability to work full-time (36.25 hours/week).
- Strong curiosity about AI-powered creative systems and emerging interaction models.
- Comfort with learning new tools quickly and working in ambiguous problem spaces.
- Basic technical literacy: light scripting or prototyping experience (Python or JavaScript) is a plus.
- Familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

The hourly rate for Undergraduate students is $25.30
The hourly rate for Graduate students is $32.20
