AI‑supported validation tools for crash simulations (passive safety/ front restraint systems)

THE BEST INTERNSHIP IN THEORY - AND IN PRACTICE.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

World-leading technologies don’t make it into a BMW until they’ve undergone one of the most challenging journeys imaginable. It takes dynamic teams with outstanding technical skills to take them from the drawing board to the road. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

We develop modern validation methods for crash simulations and real-world tests in the field of passive safety, with a strong focus on machine learning and AI. As part of our team for front restraint systems, you will work during your voluntary internship on innovative AI tools for validating simulation models and analyzing crash tests.

What awaits you?
  • Development of AI-supported tools for validating front restraint simulations.
  • Design and implementation of a method for airbag deployment analysis from crash videos using AI.
  • Development, training, and evaluation of ML/CV models.
  • Integration of your own algorithms into existing validation workflows and tools.
  • Analysis and visualization of results, derivation of evaluation metrics.
  • You independently develop ideas for new AI evaluation methods and tools and implement these as prototypes.
What you should bring along?
  • Studies in computer science, data science, computational engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a comparable field.
  • Very good programming skills, especially in Python.
  • Solid knowledge of machine learning and computer vision.
  • Basic knowledge of finite element methods and explicit crash simulations (e.g., LS-DYNA) is an advantage.
  • Fluent English and good German skills, both spoken and written.
  • Teamwork and communication skills, as well as a structured, independent working style.

What do we offer?

  • Comprehensive mentoring & onboarding.
  • Personal & professional development.
  • Work-Life-Balance & flexible working hours.
  • Digital offers & mobile working.
  • And many other benefits - see bmw.jobs/benefits
