Job Decription

 

  • Collaborates with specialist and planning partners to develop design
    standards and specifications for PLCs and control systems.
  • Plans and implements improvements within department related to PLCs and
    control systems to positively affect process capability, system
    uptime, and reliability.
  • Participates in cross-functional project teams supporting activities
    related to PLCs, control systems, and SCADA systems.
  • Provides technical support related to PLCs, networks, SCADA systems, and
    control systems during the introduction of new models and for issue
    resolution during series production.
  • Ensures proper PLC and control system operation and system-specific
    documentation delivery from line builders and systems integrators.
  • Interfaces with the IT group as a key user to ensure efficient operation
    of the department SCADA systems.
  • Develops solutions and countermeasures in automated processes using
    PLCs, control systems, and SCADA systems to improve equipment safety,
    efficiency, cost, and reliability.
  • Develops HMI and production monitoring system for automatic line control
    and maintenance information systems for all department operations.
  • Coordinates with suppliers to ensure that best programming practices and
  • BMW standards are being utilized consistently and throughout all areas.
  • Develops and maintains user and support documentation for areas of
    responsibility.
  • Evaluates concepts with technical and financial focus and drives
    necessary changes according to the BMW Group standards and local
    requirements.

 

Education

 

  • BA/BS degree in IT or engineering (Electrical/Computer/Software preferred); OR AA/AS degree in a related technical field (IT/Electrical/Computer/Software) and 2 years of professional software and controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; OR The equivalent of 4 years of professional software and controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • 5+ years of professional technical experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment (automotive preferred).
  • 5+ years of professional experience in programming/troubleshooting PLC application software for manufacturing processes (Siemens TIA Portal/S7 and automotive preferred).
  • 5+ years of professional experience with PLCs, Communication BUS, HMIs, safety PLCs, variable-frequency drives, motors, electrical schematics, and other control system components. 
  • 5+ years skills with software engineering concepts.
  • 5+ years skills with control systems troubleshooting and design.
  • 5+ years of MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Access).
  • 5+ years of professional communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
  • 3+ years skills with PC hardware troubleshooting, Networking and TCP/IP.
