THESE DAYS, AUTOMOTIVE

HISTORY IS WRITTEN IN CODE.

More than 90% of automotive innovations are based on electronics and software. That's why creative freedom and lateral thinking are so important in the pursuit of truly new solutions. Naturally, this includes flexible working models, so that our IT specialists are free to go in unconventional directions.

We are shaping the future of domain-specific AI systems at the BMW Group by designing, training and operating new foundation models. Our team sets standards for the safe and scalable AI in engineering and production.

What you will do

  • You build and adapt large language, reasoning, and multimodal models for automation at scale.
  • Furthermore you will create data flywheels and scalable pipelines; define and curate high-quality fine-tuning datasets; design efficient annotation and evaluation workflows.
  • You architect end to end AI systems with clear APIs, SLAs, security, and observability; drive reliability and cost efficiency.
  • In addition, you define standards for performance, safety, and compliance; monitor quality, drift, bias, and hallucinations; lead red teaming.
  • You will lead cross functional delivery with platform, data, and product teams; mentor engineers and researchers.
  • Finally, you manage external partnerships and vendors; evaluate open source and commercial options; drive build, buy, or partner decisions.

What you bring

  • University degree (PhD or Master) in computer science, AI, mathematics, or related field and at least 5 years of professional experience.
  • Deep expertise with LLMs and multimodal models, plus strong knowledge of post training and fine tuning methods (e.g., RLHF, DPO, PEFT).
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, PyTorch or JAX) and experience with large scale cloud data and training pipelines.
  • Proven record of shipping ML systems in production and scaling complex services.
  • Experience integrating AI into enterprise IT environments, with strong focus on safety, privacy, and security.
  • Evidence of leadership and influence: Mentoring, technical direction, strategy docs, publications or open source contributions.
