The Intern role supports the Risk Controlling and Treasury teams which sit within the Finance Department. Risk Controlling consists of Head of Risk Controlling and 5 Risk Controlling Analysts. Treasury consists of the Treasury Manager, Treasury Analyst and Assistant Treasury Analyst. Risk Controlling is responsible for ensuring the risk costs are accurately calculated and provided for within the Financial Accounts. The main types of Risks within Financial Services are Residual Value Risk, Credit Risk and Interest Rate and Liquidity Risk. Treasury is responsible for funding the business inline with group guidelines.

  • Gain industry experience and test-drive a career in Financial Services; work on real responsibilities such as weekly inter-company loan requests and interest rate swaps, and assisting Risk Controlling Analysts with forecasting, budgeting risk costs, monthly risk provisions, and adhoc queries.
  • Take ownership of weekly and monthly reporting tasks to manage independently.
  • Build skills to innovate using your own initiative; receive ongoing training tailored to your needs.
  • Finish the year with Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, SAS (point-and-click), and basic SQL; opportunities to present to Management and at Management Committees.
  • Build working relationships with a diverse group of key stakeholders across the business and gain insights from other departments, including shadowing to understand the wider business.
  • Participate in volunteering projects and on-campus events; gain experience in a regulated environment with the appropriate documentation requirements.

 

What should you bring along?

  • Education: Suitable for candidates aiming for a 2:2 or higher. Must be studying for a degree in Accounting, Management Science, Business, Economics, or an equivalent field, ideally with computer-based modules; alternatively, a numerical or computer-based discipline (Computer Science, Mathematics, Science/Engineering) with demonstrable interest in business topics. Must have strong A Levels in numerical subjects.
  • Intermediate Excel Skills and willingness to advance in Excel-related tasks.
  • Learning SAS: Desire and ability to learn SAS using the point-and-click interface to create queries and reports for business data analysis.
  • Data collating and reporting: Ability to collate data from multiple sources, prepare reports, and distribute them to stakeholders.
  • Communication and soft skills: Strong communication, influencing, and facilitation skills; ability to work at both detailed and high levels, prioritise, work under pressure, and multi-task.
  • Initiative and professionalism: Ability to work on own initiative (with mentoring support as needed); must be ambitious, confident, and maintain a professional approach.
