Life in Oxnard.

California’s Oxnard, situated on the seashore, is home to more than 200,000 people and is one of America’s wealthiest areas. Small in size, but big on quality of life: the area’s Mediterranean climate of mild winters and hot, dry summers make it easy to take advantage of its 20 miles of coastline, which encompasses beaches like Hollywood Beach, Mandalay State Beach and Silver Strand Beach and make it a hotspot for surfing.

You’ll be sure to enjoy culinary life in Oxnard, where a third of California’s strawberries are grown and which hosts the annual California Strawberry Festival, where over 1.5 million strawberries are eaten as strawberry nachos, pizza, sundaes and funnel cake.

Tech-enthusiasts will find inspiration nearby, since Silicon Valley is just half a day’s drive away from Oxnard. Just south of the city, the world’s entertainment capital, LA, is accessible in just 90 minutes by car. Located between two of the world’s most famous places, Oxnard was rated in the US’s top 20 safest cities which makes it a desired spot to raise a family.

The BMW Group Engineering and Emission Test Centre (EETC) has been based in Oxnard, one of three California-based BMW centers, since February 2000.

Located on an 11-acre site, this 78,000 sq. ft. single story building includes engineering offices, 34 workspaces for vehicle testing as well as a state-of-the-art emission laboratory. As a part of the group’s Research and Development Department, the Center’s primary assignment is the functional and endurance testing of whole vehicles and vehicle systems under typical US-, and extreme environmental conditions (Heat and Cold).  Approximately 100 employees, most of whom are engineers or technicians, work in the Oxnard EETC, which is the inspection point for the BMW, MINI and Royce Rolls vehicles that arrive from England and Germany.

From 2006 until 2009 the BMW Group operated a fleet of Hydrogen 7’ vehicles, Electric Mini and Active E-vehicles for testing and demonstration purposes out of Oxnard. In 2011 the EETC opened a satellite test operation site located at BMW of North America’s Headquarter in New Jersey, in order to cover both of BMW’s main US markets. Today, the EETC is an integral part of BMW’s leading role in cutting-edge technology for future vehicle concepts as well as electrical and hybrid propulsion systems.

BMW entered the U.S. market in 1968 with the “2002,” creating an all-new segment: the sports sedan. The success of this vehicle led to establishing BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) in 1975. In the years to follow, BMW NA took over import and distribution responsibilities for BMW motorcycles in 1980; introduced MINI, creating America’s first premium small car segment, in 2002; and launched the new Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in 2003.

The BMW Group sales headquarters (BMW NA) has grown significantly in North America. In 2008, the headquarters campus underwent a $100 million expansion to consolidate its operations and stay at the forefront of the automotive industry. Designed to blend into its natural surroundings and committed to reduce energy consumption, the building allows for a state-of-the-art work environment with plenty of natural daylight.

Located in the heart of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, the 220,000 square feet buildings is in close proximity to the highway, market places, and shopping outlets. It is home to more than 1,100 BMW associates that support the American sales operations of the BMW brand and motor vehicles, including motorcycles, the MINI brand, and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

The 1,150-acre, 5-million-square-foot campus generates its own power, offers an on-site Family Health Center and provides 24-hour security and firefighting personnel. To date, BMW has invested nearly $7 billion in its South Carolina operations.

The BMW brand has one of the most passionate and loyal followings in the world. In the U.S., four officially recognized clubs with over 125,000 members and BMW owners represent 40% of the membership worldwide.
