Intern/Bachelor Thesis: Automated Analysis of SELinux Policies (f/m/d)

THE FUTURE WILL NEVER SIMPLY WORK IN THEORY.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

World-leading technologies don’t make it into a BMW until they’ve undergone one of the most challenging journeys imaginable. It takes dynamic teams with outstanding technical skills to take them from the drawing board to the road. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

Description

We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting bachelor thesis on the topic of analyzing SELinux policies. Based on a central policy, the kernel restricts permissions of applications. Ideally this policy should only grant permissions that are really required and thus follow the principle of least privilege.  This can be a quite tedious task and yet a single missing permission can make applications unusable. Due to that, developers tend to grant more permissions than required. In your work you should develop tooling to automatically analyze SELinux policies to support policy development.

What awaits you?

  • Be part of the development team which brings the State-of-the-art security technologies into the future generations of BMW headunits.
  • Get in touch with modern security technologies.
  • Implement tests and new features for our projects.
  • A steep learning curve on Linux Security related topics.

Please note that you must ensure that the thesis is supervised by a university.

What should you bring along?

  • C / C++ and / or Python.
  • Basic Linux Knowledge.
  • SELinux knowledge would be beneficial.

Are you enthused by new technologies and an innovative environment? Apply now!
