Paint Shop Robotics Automation Co-op (Summer 2024)
This is a co-op position which requires three alternating rotations (e. g. 1st rotation: spring, 2nd rotation: fall, 3rd rotation: summer).
Provides customers with premium painted bodies by exceeding customer expectations. Solves complex robotic problems such as cycle time, throughput, and appearance targets. Will be involved in and lead projects in short- and long-term automation objectives. Performs root cause analysis on issues impacting automation targets.Paint shop’s automation complexity is continuing to grow; it is crucial to continually improve our automation process by innovating and driving technological advances in manufacturing to sustain production of BMW X-Vehicles. Find innovative ways to improve current products and processes within Paint Shop and support the integration of new technologies.
The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:
- Design and iterate on 3D-printed products for process improvement.
- Support and lead Automation projects.
- Maintain automation KPIs.
- Assess, evaluate, and report on robotic cycle time targets.
- Validate robotic program changes by validating changes and auditing robotic change logs.
- Generate reports on various automation projects.
- Maintain 6S and safety standards for robot programming cells and department areas.
- Manage robot suppliers and escalation topics.
- Various production-critical tasks.
- Manage robot flexibility and work content scenarios for downtime prevention.
- Manage trials and launch of BMW Individual Colors and Matte Colors.
- Trial new tooling and solve complex problems in automation areas such as our integrated paint process line, corrosion prevention automation, automated plugs installation, cavity wax automation, and automated liquid applied sound deadener.
- Lead cycle time improvement initiatives.
- Engineering Degree.
- Knowledge of computer programming, and/or Controls logic.
- Willingness to work in a production environment.
- Flexible; skilled in multitasking and prioritizing.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
- Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
- Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
- Ability to complete 3 alternating work terms for Co-op positions.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
- Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
- MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT.
- Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
