Description

This is a Co-Op position which requires three alternating rotations (e. g. 1st rotation: fall, 2nd rotation: summer, 3rd rotation: spring).

 Material Flow and Lineside Planning Team member responsible for supporting body shop logistics project planning and innovations implementations plantwide.  Candidate will be expected to support multiple projects aiding in future vehicle launches within bodyshop logistics and assembly to a smaller degree including planning of automated material deliveries, press shop launch, warehouse planning, etc.  Candidate will be responsible for supporting and steering tasks/projects to aid in completing overall projects.

The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

  •    Head count planning for logistics processes for future vehicle launches
  • Planning of floor space for optimized part storage (high bay racking, block storage, supermarkets, etc.)
  •  Maintaining BMW layouts using layout software
  • Investigating use cases for automation potentials
  •  Running of monthly KPI reports for dock door utilization, storage utilization
  • Supporting the implementation of Smart Transport Robots (STR’s)
  • Supporting the implementation of Autonomous Forklifts
  • Supporting implementation of autonomous route trains
  • Supporting implementation of autonomous yard hostlers
  • Implement changes (as required) within in the autonomous systems.
  • Planning container automated deliveries for future vehicle launches
  •  Helping to evaluate available space for new vehicle launches
  •  Helping to plan logistics area for new vehicle launches
  • Relocation of launch center to make room for other processes
  • Overseeing new structure installations in body shop logistics
  • Smart Transport Robot (STR)
o   Training on STR’s fleet management system (ATS). 

o   Production support of STR’s fault resolution and performance optimization

o   Development & monitoring of KPI’s for STR performance within production

o   Support deployment of STR in body shop and assembly
·       Autonomous Forklift

o   Supporting with pilot planning

o   Defining and validating use cases

·       Autonomous Route Trains

o   Support deployment in assembly

o   Planning of routes

o   Creation of KPI tracking for performance

o   Supporting of fault resolution

·       Autonomous Yard Hostler pilots

o   Supporting implementation

o   Planning and evaluating success, effectiveness, and use cases

 
Qualifications
  • Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management (preferred engineering background)
  • Strong background in Excel, Access is a plus
  • Detail-oriented
  • Self-Starter
  • Outgoing
  • good problem solver
  • Strong background in excel is a plus
  • Student with previous internship/co-op experience preferred.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to complete 3 alternating work terms for Co-op positions. 
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • Must Attach an unofficial transcript upon applying 
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term. 
  • The work term dates for this position are May 20th-August 9th 2024.
