Launch and Change Intern (Fall 2023)

Description
The qualified intern should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:
  • Engage in collaborative department work related to new, confidential model launches as well as current series production.  The intent is to develop the candidate to lead their own project as they are able and engage with process partners globally.
  • Support the launch and change coordinators with activities to verify the bill of material and demand logic changes for vehicle production.
  • Projects will involve development and optimizing of data analytical systems to improve processes and reporting.
  • Support Launch and Change Coordinators with engineering changes:
    • Create, manage, and validate component overviews for specific parts of the car
    • Contribute to Test Car BOM (Bill of Material) validation, where the new design changes are verified (i.e., the correct part is systematically steered to the correct vehicle)
    • Support the coordination of Line Trials, where new parts are physically tested in the production environment
    • Investigate design topics through data analysis
  • Report generation and maintenance

  • Major projects in this role focus on efficiency improvements and data accuracy, that could include:
    • Implementing solutions to improve efficiency in the processes
    • Complete various process mapping exercises (e.g., process flow, swim lane, etc.)
    • Create content overview for different vehicle modules
    • Facilitates workshops to define the current process and outline areas of opportunity
  • NOTE: most of the processes within TX-511/512 are systematic and information based, so many of the improvement opportunities lie in systematic process changes.

Assignment Development Plan: 

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of how BMW processes and implements design changes into our plant, both at a detailed level and at a macro level.
  • Exposure to our business partner’s processes, including logistics, production, design in Munich, etc. The student will gain experience contributing to a cross-functional international team.
  • Develop their analytical and problem-solving skills.  As they progress through their co-op rotations, they will have the potential to fully lead and steer their own projects. The student will be able to identify opportunities and develop their own ideas for how to improve our processes.
Qualifications
Pursuing a BS or Graduate Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business Management, Operations Management, MIS (Management Information Systems), Computer Science or other relevant degrees.
  • MS Excel and Office Suite knowledge.
  • Strong computer aptitude (ability to learn BMW Group systems, SAP, SQL, etc.).
  • Project Management.
  • Planning and Organizational skills; able to manage many projects and responsibilities in a structured manner.
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative.
  • VBA (or Python) and JAVA skills preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience of manufacturing processes and workflows preferred.
  • German language is a plus.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major)
  • Have fulltime status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application
  • Able to work fulltime (40 hours / week)
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term
  • THE WORK TERM DATES ARE (August 14th, 2023 - December 15th, 2023)
