Design and Configuration Data Intern (Fall 2023)

Description

The Design and Configuration Data Intern will be a part of the Technical Planning/Engineering team and work alongside the team members in different projects and areas during this rotation.

  • The Quality Engineering team will be working in the manufacturing and production process for new products and car models to deliver Premium Quality products to our customers.
  • Main objectives will be to support existing vehicle Production processes as well as new model industrialization.
  • Other tasks may include, but not limited to: product and tool design, project management and timelines, innovation and digitalization, excel macro and other programming tasks, process cycle time and adherence to targets, quality management, metrology methods, and others.
  • Support Engineering Data Analysist Team with engineering changes:
    • Create, manage, and validate component overviews for specific parts of the car
    • Contribute to Test Car BOM (Bill of Material) validation, where the new design changes are verified (i.e., the correct part is systematically steered to the correct vehicle)
    • Investigate design topics through data analysis

  • Major projects in this role focus on efficiency improvements and data accuracy, that could include:
    • Implementing solutions to improve efficiency in the processes
    • Complete various process mapping exercises (e.g., process flow, swim lane, etc.)
    • Create content overview for different vehicle modules
    • Facilitates workshops to define the current process and outline areas of opportunity
  • NOTE: most of the processes within TX-511/512 are systematic and information based, so many of the improvement opportunities lie in systematic process changes

 

Assignment Training Plan (Technical and Process Skill Development): List any training the student will receive on BMW specific systems and processes (such as PQM, CAMS, CATIA, Nuclos, etc.)

  • PSBOM Hub, CEDEC, Cloud Data Hub, AU Global, LTERM, LTERM-NG, SAP, VisView, Qlik Reporting, SQL, PowerBI, and Apex.

 Assignment Development Plan: List any understanding, skills, and abilities the student will gain in this assignment.

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of how BMW processes and implements design changes into our plant, both at a detailed level and at a macro level.
  • Exposure to our business partner’s processes, including logistics, production, design in Munich, etc. The student will gain experience contributing to a cross-functional international team.
  • Develop their analytical and problem-solving skills.  As they progress through their co-op rotations, they will have the potential to fully lead and steer their own projects. The student will be able to identify opportunities and develop their own ideas for how to improve our processes.
Qualifications
  • Pursuing a BS or Graduate Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business Management, Operations Management, MIS (Management Information Systems), Computer Science or other relevant degrees.
  • MS Excel and Office Suite knowledge
  • Strong computer aptitude (ability to learn BMW Group systems, SAP, SQL, etc.)
  • Project Management
  • Planning and Organizational skills; able to manage many projects and responsibilities in a structured manner
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative
  • VBA (or Python) and JAVA skills helpful
  • Knowledge or experience of manufacturing processes and workflows helpful
  • German language is a plus
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to complete 3 alternating work terms for co-op positions. 
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT. 
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term. 
  • THE WORK TERM DATES ARE August 14th 2023 to December 15th, 2023.
