Manager, E-Module Manufacturing - Battery Plant

The BMW Group continues the roll-out of its electromobility plan with a new investment in the U.S. to expand Plant Spartanburg and the company’s manufacturing footprint in the U.S. BMW Group Chairman of the Board of Management, Oliver Zipse, announced 10/19/2022, a $1.7 billion investment in its U.S. operations, including $1 billion to prepare for the production of electric vehicles at the company’s existing U.S. manufacturing facility in South Carolina, and $700 million to build a new high-voltage battery assembly facility in nearby Woodruff, SC.

The Manager, E-Module Manufacturing will:

  • Be responsible for state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and production team within the E-module production factory.
  • Develop lean and efficient manufacturing processes while leading cross-functional teams to achieve Safety, Quality, Volume and Cost requirements.
  • Work with the Energy Module product development team to ensure manufacturing reliability, Product Excellence, and Integration of new Products.
  • Lead and develop a highly skilled production team for the E-module production factory.
  • Direct day-to-day activities to achieve a lean and efficient manufacturing process: Employee relations, Headcount management, hiring of highly motivated and skilled associates, identification of problems, resolution of bottlenecks, etc.
  • Innovate processes and procedures to drive improvements.
  • Be responsible for delivery of key production performance indicators: Safety, Quality, Volume and Cost.
  • Ensure high quality standards such as control systems, monitoring and managing key product metrics and documentation.
  • Deliver regular production updates for management reviews on the performance of the operation.
  • Maintain high product quality, safety and yield while ensuring optimal cost, use of resources and adherence to best safety practices.
  • Lead team to utilize Problem Solving tools to characterize equipment or processes operating limits, and robustness.
  • Responsible for first pass yield, scrap, continuous improvement opportunities and implement best practices.
  • Career development and management of staff to drive growth, opportunities, and retention of talent. 
  • Support activities for engineering and manufacturing including 6S and Lean manufacturing activities, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety procedures.
  • Understand and model VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Ensure environmental and legal compliance within the area of responsibility.
  • Drive 6S Principles.

  • BS/MS Degree, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering OR equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  • 3+ years of battery manufacturing production.
  • 3+ years of process knowledge with adhesives bonding, foaming and/or mechanical pressing.
  • 3+ years of mechanical assembly knowledge.
