Team Leader: Production

Purpose and key accountabilities of the function:

  • Ensures and maintains the continuity of operation of all hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment within the Painted Body Plant.
  • Ensures and direct that all maintenance work, preventative and emergency, is carried out in accordance with BMW specifications, relevant safety regulations.
  • Plans and follows up for production related equipment replacement in conjunction with product requirements, productivity improvements, capacity and capability demands.
  • Ensures and is accountable that all safety registers are up to date.
  • Identifies, organizes and follows up on staff training with succession planning in mind.
  • Decides and recourse utilization within his/her area of responsibility and accountability.
  • Develops, establishes, implements and follows up on strategies for maintaining the continuity of production during breakdowns.
  • Ensures equipment availability on start-up after equipment has been worked on, by commissioning equipment before start-up.
  • It is his/her duty to initiate actions to assure product quality under all circumstances during the production process.
  • Establishes Safety Health Environmental related hazards arising out of processes within his/her relevant areas by means of:
    • Area walk throughs.
    • Co-operation with SHE-Champion during aspects/impacts identification process.
  • Ensures that all associates within his/her area are informed regarding hazards and appropriate preventative/corrective actions attached to processes by means of:
    • Pep talks.
    • Informal meetings.
    • Online training sessions.
  • Establish Safety, Health and Environmental hazards arising out of process within his/her area by means of:
    • Area walk through.
    • Hazard identification and Risk Assessment.
    • Co-operation with the IMS Representative during aspect/impact identification process.
  • Ensures that all associates within your area are informed regarding the latest level and/or developments of Safety, Health and Environmental issues, by means of:
    • Pep talks.
    • Online training.
    • Informal meetings.
  • Ensures that personal protective equipment, special equipment and protective clothing is available, issued, appropriately used, maintained and the use thereof enforced to ensure the safety of the associates.
  • Continuously address Safety, Health and Environmental impacts from activities through engineering methods, maintenance, workplace improvements, awareness training and enforcing safe working practices.
  • Report, record and investigate all incidents and/or accidents which occurred in your area of responsibility, as prescribe by ZA S-13.
  • Immediate respond to situations and/or conditions that may result in incidents or injury.
  • Has the authority to stop his line in the event of poor quality.

 

Work and leadership experience:

  • Fluent verbal/written in English.
  • Mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic experience with state-of-the-art technical equipment, facilities and tooling at least 3 years.
  • Leadership experience, at least 2 years.
  • Experience in application of quality techniques and tools, minimum 2 years.
  • Three years’ experience in an Automotive Paint Production Plant preferably with BMW.
  • Paint Technology Experience as an added advantage.
  • Planning and organising. Leading and supervising.

 

Experience and qualifications:

  • N6 National/Technical Diploma.
  • Trade Test. Preferably Millwright.
  • Minimum 3 years in Paint Shop Production or Maintenance role.
