Paint Shop Quality Co-op (Summer 2025)

Description 

 

Drives quality systems and product quality improvements through quality inspection, data analysis with root cause investigations, and process controls in Paint Shop technology.

 

The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

 

  • Performs data collection for quality assessment in production areas.
  • Generates daily and weekly quality reporting (Body Shop Quality Gate, Weekly Paint Quality).
  • Analyzes quality data and creates trend and control charts (Microsoft Excel / Minitab).
  • Reviews process area for improvement ideas such as process changes, RMU (rework minutes per unit) reductions, and DPHU (defects per hundred unit) reductions.  Makes recommendations and conducts implementation.
  • Views product audit cars and assists defect landscape, problem solving and corrective action communication.
  • Implements containment and problem-solving activities (with Quality Engineer).
  • Creates presentations for quality topic status and defect trends. Communicates results in Work Organization or Quality meeting.
  • Assists Paint IT specialists with database creation and improvements, gathering computer station information and data tracking.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to help with root cause analysis activities and track defect rates with colleagues in Body Shop, Assembly, Engineering, Launch and / or Laboratory groups.
  • Develop visual feedback tools to deliver quality status and direction to Production areas (visual aids, additional work instructions, etc.).
  • Support open Shop Floor management initiatives including defect landscape and problem solving.
  • Participate in CIPs (Continuous Improvement Project) with cross-functional team on open quality topics or areas of opportunity.
  • Gather defect data and use logical analysis approach to draw conclusions and make recommendations.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or related degree of studies.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Must commit to three co-op rotations. 
  • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT. 
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
