Financial Accountant
This broad role is primarily responsible for the internal and external financial reporting for the National Sales Companies at BMW in the UK and Ireland, and supporting key transformation projects (e.g. TNR, GFBB). Working across the Finance department and wider business, the role provides a great overview of the financial results and operational finance processes.
What awaits you?
- Ensure delivery of high-quality financial reporting and accounting packages (including disclosures), in accordance with IFRS and the Group Chart of Accounts, are made on time to HQ, for both the UK and Ireland NSC’s (‘National Sales Companies’). This includes both actuals and forecast/budget submissions.
- Act as the key point of contact for external audits, and co-ordinate the deliverables internally, liaising across the Finance department and wider business, where necessary. This consists of a half-year review, interim audit, and year-end audit.
- Prepare the annual financial statements for the UK and Ireland NSC’s, and Park Lane, ensuring these are prepared in accordance with IFRS.
- Advise the Finance department and wider business to ensure all accounting entries are compliant with UK/IE legislation, IFRS, BMW Group Accounting Guidelines and Tax legislation.
- Prepare key judgemental accounting entries and reconciliations, such as warranty and stock provisions, and technical accounting topics such as IFRS 16, and pensions.
- Prepare and review certain monthly Balance Sheet and system interface reconciliations to ensure to ensure that accounts are fully reconciled.
- Review and challenge month and year-end processes to ensure timely and accurate recording of entries in financial accounting systems. Propose and implement recommendations to improve process efficiencies.
- Collaborate with business and IT partners to ensure that finance considerations are implemented correctly within projects, and act as a Finance SME for entries in financial systems.
- Support the Finance department with significant transformation projects (e.g. The New Retail, Group Finance Backbone).
What should you bring along?
- Fully qualified chartered accountant (ACA/ACCA).
- Strong Excel skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact at different levels within BMW Group and externally.
- Ability to lead and motivate others to meet tight deadlines and achieve a high standard of quality.
- Ability to handle pressure whilst prioritising multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Experience of working in an external audit firm, ideally Big Four.
- Working knowledge of SAP and the operation of Shared Service Centres advantageous.
- Good understanding of key finance risks, processes and controls.
