I have always had a keen interest in everything related to cars and this inspired me to graduate from university with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in the field of Aerodynamics. Thereafter, I started my career in the automotive industry working in the field of R&D and Product Development for various car companies. However, after completing my MBA post-graduate degree specialising in Marketing Strategy, I then decided to move into the field of Sales & Marketing and thus began my career at the BMW Group Malaysia as the Product & Price Planning Manager. It was a great experience to be a pioneer member of the newly set-up National Sales Company (NSC) back then, and I accomplished a lot of new milestones and launched various new models in the market whilst also learning the various systems and internal processes that define the complex product management process at BMW.

A few years later, I was given the amazing opportunity to work in the BMW headquarters in Munich within the Regional Product Management team. Those few years based in Munich were certainly a key highlight of my career at BMW since it gave me access to deep dive into the internal processes in the headquarters, collaborate with a diverse range of colleagues across various central departments and forge new friendships and professional contacts with many colleagues as well.

Over the next decade, I have taken on various leadership positions back in Malaysia – firstly by leading the Marketing department and successfully making the BMW brand the strongest premium brand in the country, and thereafter leading the Sales department and working closely with the dealer partners to set new sales records for the brand. Since 2019, I have been based in Taipei and am responsible for the regional sales success for the importer markets Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Many challenges have obviously occurred over the past years but I have a great team within the regional office as well as with the importers to steer the business in the right direction and as a result, we have continued to drive profitable growth in a difficult market environment.

How can I sum up my career with BMW so far? I have grown with the company (not just in age!), I have learnt so many new professional skills, met so many new people and made new friends, visited countless countries around the world, driven so many fantastic cars. My passion for the brand has not wavered one bit and I am still extremely proud to be part of the best automotive brand in the world.

Joy is at the heart of our brand – and I feel it every single day when I go to work. Although the sales role is stressful, challenging, demanding and encompasses many other responsibilities such as Product Management, Marketing, Network Development, Customer Support etc., the expression of Joy on our customers’ faces after a test drive experience, or when they finally receive their car gives me a strong sense of personal satisfaction and keeps me driven for the electrifying future ahead of us!
